Choosing a departure
Emirates runs the corridor around the clock and the A380 sectors are the most comfortable economy on the route. The overnight eastbound departures land in Dubai early morning, which works well for a connection but badly if you have a hotel check-in to wait out.
British Airways and Virgin depart mid-morning and land in the evening — better for a direct Dubai stay. Gulf Air via Bahrain is reliably the lowest fare on the page but costs you three and a half extra hours.
When to book
Dubai's high season runs November to March, when the weather is pleasant and fares climb to $600–$800. The bargains are in June to August, when daytime temperatures pass 45°C and fares drop to the high $300s.
Because frequency is so high, this route rewards booking late more than most: 4 to 6 weeks out is often as affordable as 4 months out. It punishes booking inside 10 days, when only full-flex buckets remain.
Terminals and transit
Emirates uses Heathrow Terminal 3 and Dubai Terminal 3; British Airways uses Heathrow Terminal 5 and Dubai Terminal 1. If you are connecting in Dubai onto a non-Emirates carrier, budget 90 minutes and expect an inter-terminal transfer. Most nationalities including UK and US passport holders receive a free visa on arrival.
